UIL A+ Ready Writing
Sponsor/Advisor: Mrs. Moore
Meetings: Thursday
Grade Level: 3rd - 5th Grade
Purpose: Texas has put a great emphasis on writing skills at all levels of school and all levels of state-wide testing. Ready Writing, a contest for students in grades 3,4,5,6,7 and 8, builds upon those skills and helps students refine their writing abilities. In particular, this contest helps them to learn to write clearly and correctly a paper that is interesting and original.
UIL A+ Oral Reading
Sponsor/Advisor: Ms. Schabbing
Meetings: Wednesday
Grade Level: 4th and 5th Grade
Purpose: In this event, students prepare and present a literary selection that has been published (such as a poem, short story, or excerpt from a book). The purpose is to promote the appreciation of literature while developing the student’s ability to interpret and expressively read aloud to an audience. It’s designed to build confidence in public speaking, fluency, and appreciation for literature while allowing creativity in how the student conveys the author’s meaning.
